"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
Are you all looking forward to Alice in Wonderland next week? I CANNOT wait! This sort of movie is right up my street and I love Tim Burton too.
Are you having a Mad Hatter tea party? Celebrating your Unbirthday? Or are you having a game of croquet in your back garden? Has anyone spotted any blog parties - that would be fun :-)
Lewis Carroll or Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was born in Daresbury a pretty cheshire village not too far from Warrington and about 20 minutes from where we live.
At the centre of the Village is All Saints Church, built around 1870 and inside this beautiful church are the stained glass Lewis Carroll memorial windows.
The window was designed by the stained glass artist Geoffrey Webb and depicts a Nativity scene, at which both Carroll and Alice are present. It's probably a little too small on this piccie to see, but below the Nativity scene are 5 panels illustrated with characters and scenes from Alice in Wonderland including the White Rabbit, the Lizard, the Dodo, the Caterpillar, Fish-Footman, Mad Hatter, Dormouse, March Hare, Duchess, Gryphon, Mock Turtle, Knave and Queen of Hearts. The famous Cheshire Cat can be found in the centre of the fifth panel. The 3 centre panels contain verses from the Lewis Carroll’s poem ‘Christmas Greetings (From a Fairy to a Child)’.
"One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others"
- Lewis Carroll
